2.  Information Collected/Tracked by PPL Power Panel

PPL Power Panel collects information that identifies, relates to, describes, references, is reasonably capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular consumer, household, or device (“Personal Information”). Personal Information does not include:

  • Publicly available information from government records;
  • Deidentified or aggregated consumer information;
  • Health or medical information covered by Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and the California Confidentiality of Medical Information Act; or
  • Personal Information covered by various privacy laws, including the Fair Creditor Reporting Act, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act or the California Financial Information Privacy Act, and the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act of 1994.

In particular, PPL Power Panel has collected the following categories of Personal Information from its consumers within the past 12 months:




A. Identifiers.

A real name, alias, postal address, unique personal identifier, online identifier, Internet Protocol address, email address, account name, Social Security number, driver's license number, passport number, or other similar identifiers.


B. Personal Information categories listed in the California Customer Records statute (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.80(e)).

A name, signature, Social Security number, physical characteristics or description, address, telephone number, passport number, driver's license or state identification card number, insurance policy number, education, employment, employment history, bank account number, credit card number, debit card number, or any other financial information, medical information, or health insurance information.


Some Personal Information included in this category may overlap with other categories.


C. Protected classification characteristics under California or federal law.


Age (40 years or older), race, color, ancestry, national origin, citizenship, religion or creed, marital status, medical condition, physical or mental disability, sex (including gender, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy or childbirth and related medical conditions), sexual orientation, veteran or military status, genetic information (including familial genetic information).


D. Commercial information.

Records of personal property, products or services purchased, obtained, or considered, or other purchasing or consuming histories or tendencies.


E. Biometric information.

Genetic, physiological, behavioral, and biological characteristics, or activity patterns used to extract a template or other identifier or identifying information, such as, fingerprints, faceprints, and voiceprints, iris or retina scans, keystroke, gait, or other physical patterns, and sleep, health, or exercise data.


F. Internet or other similar network activity.

Browsing history, search history, information on a consumer's interaction with a website, application, or advertisement.


G. Geolocation data.

Physical location or movements.


H. Sensory data.

Audio, electronic, visual, thermal, olfactory, or similar information.


I. Professional or employment-related information.

Current or past job history or performance evaluations.


J. Non-public education information (per the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (20 U.S.C. Section 1232g, 34 C.F.R. Part 99)).

Education records directly related to a student maintained by an educational institution or party acting on its behalf, such as grades, transcripts, class lists, student schedules, student identification codes, student financial information, or student disciplinary records.


K. Inferences drawn from other personal information.

Profile reflecting a person's preferences, characteristics, psychological trends, predispositions, behavior, attitudes, intelligence, abilities, and aptitudes.


PPL Power Panel obtains the categories of Personal Information set forth above from the following sources:

  • Directly from you. For example, from forms and surveys you complete or products and services you purchase.

Information submitted to PPL Power Panel:

PPL Power Panel collects account information submitted by the users, such as name and email address to identify users and send notifications related to the use of the site. PPL Power Panel also collects user-submitted information, such as gender, age, activities, location, etc.

Information not directly submitted by users to PPL Power Panel:

This is information we collect that is not personally identifiable, such as browser type and IP address. This information is gathered for everyone who uses the site, for the general administration of our website, and to allow us to bring you a better user experience by customizing the site for your specific technical settings.

3.  Use of Personal Information Obtained by PPL 

Personal information is any information that is identifiable with you. This information may include, but is not limited to, your name, mailing address, phone number, email address, identification numbers, and in certain circumstances, your opinions and individual preferences. Personal information, however, does not include your business title or business address or business phone/fax. In certain jurisdictions, publicly available information is not considered personal information.

We may collect personal information about other members of your household. This information may include, but is not limited to, the age and gender of the other household members. We use this information to determine if certain activities are relevant to you based on the composition of your household.

We may offer you the opportunity to refer-a-friend, which allows you to invite one or more friends to join PPL Power Panel. This process will ask you to provide an email address for the individuals you wish to refer. An email message with a registration link may be sent to the referee from PPL Power Panel on your behalf. Emails submitted via refer-a-friend opportunities will be used only by Bellomy Research, Inc. for research invitations. Referrers first name and/or PPL Power Panel username may be disclosed to their referees, but no additional information will be shared.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18 years of age.


We use the personal information we collect for various purposes. One of the primary purposes for which we collect your personal information is to conduct research through your participation in PPL Power Panel. We may also use your personal information to send you email communications, to administer PPL Power Panel, to administer sweepstakes, contests, and similar promotions, to invite you to participate in research activities, and to obtain your insight for and about PPL, its parents, subsidiaries, and affiliates and their products and services. We may also use your personal information as otherwise permitted by law. As a PPL Power Panel member, you have the right to refuse to participate in/decline to provide any personal information which you are not comfortable sharing. However, participation levels are monitored, and extended inactivity is reason for dismissal from PPL Power Panel.

 User name and optional profile picture will be used by PPL Power Panel to show new members or examples of members on various pages throughout the site. Profile information as well as user name and optional profile picture are displayed to members of PPL Power Panel. Panel members can communicate on the Panel with each other through our messaging service, without disclosing email addresses. PPL Power Panel does not send spam.

PPL Power Panel will also use some of the information posted on our site for content. When a contribution is posted, that information becomes part of the PPL Power Panel and can be used on other areas of the site. This is how PPL Power Panel builds its content and allows other users to learn from the user who posted the information. This is the nature of the site.

We may also use information that you do not actively submit to us. We use your server, IP address, and browser-type information in the general administration of our website.

4.  Sharing of the Personal Information We Collect/Track

We may share your personal information that we collect in PPL Power Panel with affiliated companies, service providers, and promotion sponsors. Your personal information is never published or made public in any way.

Participation in a financial incentive program requires your prior opt in consent, which you may revoke at any time. If you use the “I forgot my password” link on PPL Power Panel login page, you will receive an automated email message sending you the information requested to the email address you provided. An individual from Bellomy Research, Inc. may also contact you using the email address you provided to respond to your questions. 

13.  Use of Cookies

Cookies are pieces of data stored on the user’s computer tied to information about the user. We use session ID cookies and persistent cookies. For the session ID cookie, once users close the browser, the cookie simply terminates. A persistent cookie is a text file stored on the user’s hard drive for an extended period of time. The data collected in this process and the digital fingerprint created is not tied to any of your personal information, is stored on secured servers, and is used only to help prevent you from completing the same survey multiple times and for no other purpose.

All of our email messages clearly explain how you can opt-out of receiving future email communications and unsubscribe from PPL Power Panel. We will always process your opt-out request within 10 business days of receiving it. 20.  Testimonial Privacy

If you are chosen as a winner in one of our sweepstakes or judged contests, you may be given the option to provide a testimonial which we may post on the PPL Power Panel website or include in an email communication to members of PPL Power Panel. Your testimonial, username, and an electronic picture of yourself, if you provide one, will only be included in the newsletter or communication if you provide us with consent.
